01 Feb Peace – Get Messy – February 2013

Life App: Peace-proving you care more about each other then winning an argument
Theme: Get Messy
Date: February, 2013

Ideas We Brainstormed

  • Splatter paint foam core rectangles and squares and hang them like abstract art on the backdrop
  • Have “messy”stations on the stage (i.e. finger paint, mud pies, shaving cream, sand art)
  • Write an interactive piece into the script each week to use the “messy” stations and then hang the finished product each week as an addition to the stage/set
  • Splatter paint the entire backdrop

Where We Landed

We decided to use the idea of splattering the entire backdrop to resemble abstract art, but we kept it in conjunction with the graphics from 252 Basics. In addition, we decided to have all of the bottom lines and the word Peace painted throughout the backdrop.

Supplies

  • Paint (we chose colors from the various graphics that 252 Basics supplied)
  • Our current backdrop (10 insulation foam panels pre-painted black)
  • Drop cloths
  • Rollers
  • Paint Brushes

Process

  • We decided to forfeit our current black backdrop and paint directly onto it.
  • We brought in a volunteer that is a strong artist and had her splatter, pour and create faux messy finishes on the panels. We treated them as sections and tried to play off of the 252 Basics graphics.
  • We painted the word PEACE in the center of the backdrop like graffiti.
  • We painted the bottom line for each week and some of the “Solution Spinner” suggestions for peace in smaller lettering around the entire backdrop like graffiti (the “Solution Spinner” was this month’s widget from 252).
