Ideas We Brainstormed

We loved the suggestion that 252 gave us (see the Get Ready section of Week 1’s curriculum) about getting photos of kids from our environment with their small groups. We decided we would use that idea and put the photos on either side of our center stage backdrop (focal wall). Since our projection screens would display the 252 theme graphic, we decided to “play off” that image and create one of kids holding hands across the center stage wall. Above that, we would hang 3-D letters that spelled out “Friends Stick Together.”

Process

  • We painted our backdrop (10 panels of insulation foam) green. We pulled the green color from the 252 graphic for the month.
  • Throughout the month of March, we had someone take photos of the kids in our environment. We focused on getting shots of them with their small groups, but also had candids.
  • We printed the photos on our copier using various sizes of paper (8.5×11, 11×14 and 11×17).
  • We measured the foam core boards and cut them so they would have a one inch border for each photo.
  • We mounted the photos on the foam core boards using double sided tape.
  • Originally, we thought about projecting and copying an image of paper dolls (the kind that are connected hand-to-hand) on insulation foam, carving it out and painting it. We decided instead to use the graphics that 252 gave us and have their images of kids across the base of the center-stage focal wall. 
  • We created the image we wanted for our center-stage wall and then had our friends from Photo Tex print the image for us.
  • We cut the image out and then cut it into 3 sections (1 per backdrop panel).
  • We peeled and stuck the images onto the 3 panels aligning them so they looked like one image when the panels were in place as the backdrop.
  • We planned to cut and paint letters from insulation foam that said “Friends Stick Together,” but because we were short on time this month, we used the Cricut and cut letters from craft paper. Using the “Shadow” feature helped the letters look a bit more 3-D and it helped them pop.
  • We pinned the foam core-mounted photos on either side of the focal wall.
