We are using Base Camp as our Summer XP this year, but we are not kicking it off until the last week of June. Read more about that decision here. We realize that while we aren’t working on our Base Camp set this week, many of you are busy creating and getting ready for Sunday! We did do some work on our Base Camp environment last weekend, so we’d thought we’d post some photos of our process. You can get a full idea of where we are headed here.

Creating Our Base Camp-Phase 1
- We painted 10 panels of insulation foam blue to represent the sky and serve as our backdrop.
We used 10 more insulation foam panels and a projector to enlarge mountains from the 252 Basics Bottom Line-Week 5 graphic. We liked that image because the mountains offered the most height.- We flipped the image so that we could have higher mountains on either side of the set and a valley in the center.
- We used a hot knife to carve out the mountains.
As we did, the top portion of the mountain we were carving became another shorter mountain. We’ll pin the 20 panels of mountains on top of one another in layers. This will give our stage design more depth.- We also painted some wooden poles that had been cut to size, brown. These will be used for all of our signage throughout our environment.
One volunteer spent a lot of time on the Cricut cutting letters for all of our environment station signs. You can read about our plans for stations here.
