25 Jan Knowledge – January 2014 – Parts 2 & 3: SHOWCASE & Our Finished Product

Better Late Than Never!

We’re heading into the last Sunday of the month and I am finally getting to post January’s SHOWCASE and our finished product. The New Year always seems to come with new initiatives, new routines, etc. I guess it’s all put me a bit behind here on the blog, but hopefully we’ll be back to our regular schedule in February.

For now, check out what these church leaders shared about the creation of their January sets.

JANUARY SHOWCASE:

Family Life Christian Fellowship – San Diego, CA

Bernie Lopez shared this information with me about her January set.

The snowboarder is cardboard, spray painted.  He is on an actual snowboard. The skier is also cardboard. The “snow” is furniture fabric (like what would be underneath a couch).  It came free wrapped around my new couches in December, so what perfect timing. Rings are posterboard, spray painted. I got lots of little blue snowflake ornaments on clearance after Christmas to hang on ceiling.  Flags are just printed.

I LOVE the spray paint effect used for the snowboarder and the incorporation of a real snowboard! Also, isn’t it awesome how children’s ministers can find a use for just about anything… even furniture fabric that a new couch came wrapped in!

Brazos Pointe Fellowship – Lake Jackson, TX

Kaitlin Staples shared this with me on Facebook.

I used plastic table clothes for the green and blue strips. They are actually stapled to the wall. I scrunched them a little and then cut strips and scrunched those to add a little dimension. I used a projector and traced all of the images, and letters. The snowflakes are on poster board and then have clear glitter on them and the silhouettes are traces on regular bulletin board paper. The silhouettes and letters are traced from the 252 graphics for this month. The white “snow” at the bottom is just batting. It was super cheap and not too hard to pull off!

Who would have thought plastic table clothes could work so well for a backdrop? LOVE IT!!!

Good Samaritan Church – Homestead, FL

Maria Reyes shared these photos with me on Twitter.

I LOVE the torch and Olympic Rings. Bright, fun, and colorful!

OUR FINISHED PRODUCT:

Here is what we came up with for January. We re-used our mountain landscape from our Basecamp Summer Series. Then we added the silhouettes, Olympic rings, etc. There were a few FAILS as we created this month’s set but in the end, it turned out okay. I’ll share about those debacles in a separate post!

For more great set design ideas, be sure to check out the Knowledge Album on the 252 Basics Facebook page. It’s chock-full of amazing photos of various church sets that reflect the Olympic theme for January’s Life App of Knowledge!

Can’t wait to see what you all come up with for February’s Life App of Faith. Be sure to share your photos and/or notes on Ready Set Sunday’s Facebook Page, Twitter or here.
