My Favorite Set, Yet Again!

I seem to say this every month, but I really feel like this month’s set is one of my favorites! I mean, what’s not to love? It’s vintage, it’s movie themed, it incorporates my favorite childhood show, I Love Lucy and it’s all about love! Read about how we incorporated the I Love Lucy theme (albeit a bit of a stretch) here. 🙂

The other thing that makes this one of my favorite sets is the way our set design team owned it completely. I have another commitment on our set design work nights for a season, so I am only able to be there for the first hour. This past month, I basically gave our point person a bit of an idea of what I was hoping for, helped project some images onto the backdrop and headed to my meeting. Once my meeting was over, I fully anticipated walking back into our environment to find the team still working. Instead, I found the set completely finished and everything was cleaned up and put away neatly! When I turned on the lights to see the set, I actually got a bit teary-eyed. It was more than I could have hoped for and I was over the moon about the way it turned out.

Our set design team has been one of the greatest joys of my leadership experience. They are a real gift and an answer to prayer. The development of this team came out of a huge struggle with burn-out last year. You can read about that here. Gathering this team and watching them work together to create irresistible environments for kids is incredibly gratifying. I couldn’t ask for a more creative, fun, hard-working, selfless team of individuals. I am grateful for them and all they do each month. This set is a beautiful picture of that for me!
